The Wolfville Historical Society, a registered Canadian Charitable Organization, incorporated in Nova Scotia by the Societies Act, owns maintains and operates the Randall House, a historic Horton farmhouse (ca. 1800), as a community museum reflecting the way of life in Wolfville and its surrounding area in the 18th and 19th centuries.  The house was owned by the Randall family for three generations, and provides a glimpse of how our early buildings were constructed.  It shows the details of domestic and business life, as well as the contributions made by some of Wolfville's leading families, farmers, merchants, artists and clergy.  Items in the collection include furniture made in Horton Township, fine costumes and textiles, paintings, china, glass and even a collection of Victorian greeting cards. A small library and research office for local history and genealogy is located on the second floor, where copies of the extensive photograph collection are also kept. Volunteers care for the garden which contains plants available in Nova Scotia ca. 1840.

The Society's mission is to interpret and maintain the Randall House as a museum for the benefit of the members of the Society, the residents of Wolfville and its surrounding communities, and visitors.  In carrying out this mission the Society

  • employs staff and volunteers to operate the Randall House as a seasonal museum;
  • collects and preserves records and objects of historical interest related to the life and history of the Town of Wolfville and its surrounding communities;
  • encourages membership in the Society, interest in the museum and in local history by means of meetings, historical addresses and prepared historical papers

  • advises the Town Council of Wolfville, or any of its commissions or committees, on matters related to preservation and presentation of the history of Wolfville, including the naming of streets and parks and the preservation of buildings.
